WHO IS BAK?
Bak
Thermoplastic Welding Technology is a long standing large multi-national
corporation specializing in hot-air technology and automated plastic welding
products. They have an extensive product line and ships
thousands of welders yearly.

More BAK Product Information:
The
Bak Rion
welder can
be used to handle many hot air welding needs including your hot air
roofing projects. We have in stock many hot air nozzles for overlap
welding, speed welding and for welding
thermoplastic roof materials.
The Rion is small and lightweight. Interchangeable nozzles
are available to fine tune your welding for optimum quality. The Rion is capable of welding at
temperatures of up to 650°C. The Rion heat gun is used by
plastic fabricating and geo-membrane installers, electrical
manufactures, plumbers as well as
roofing contractors around the world. It comes with a
one-year warranty and is built to last for many years of service.
The
BAK Laron automatic roofing
/ membrane hot-air welder is compact and easily to use. It is made
in Switzerland and features a TWO YEAR WARRANTY. The BAK Laron machine provides optimum
distribution of the weight on the pressure roller to prevent the
development of annoying creases. Radial transmission makes perfect
tracking possible. Available kits include 20, 40, 80, 100, and 120
mm welds in addition to a dual weld system. An automatic starter
allows separate running-in at the start of the welding process. The
Laron welder has a
display of SET and ACTUAL value of the welding speed and
temperature, as well as the voltage and keeps track of the amount
of hours the machine has been used as well as the amount of feet the
machine has welded.
EPDM ROOFING
Its possible to weld certain uncured
EPDM membranes. EPDM must be new, very clean and uncured type.
Recommended temperature settings are 590F at 9.5 feet/minute (310 C @
2.9 meters/minute). Adjust this based on weather conditions. Proper
welding is indicated by shiney inside/edge weld areas. If you overheat
EPDM, as indicated by blisters or cracks it will need to be removed
and replaced. Practice technique on scrap materials from the same roll
before proceeding. Adhesives are flammable, keep away from welder and
heat.
HYPALON ROOFING
Hypalon is a synthetic
rubber, sometimes called CSPE, is noted for its natural resistance to
chemicals, extreme temperatures and ultra-violet light. Typically
Hypalon roofing membrane is reinforced and is hot-air weldable. Most
Hypalon roofing materials are based on DuPont Hypalon®,
chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSPE) synthetic rubber. In its initial,
manufactured form, Hypalon roofing membrane is thermoplastic in
nature, which allows it to be hot-air welded. After installation and
exposure to the environment, the membrane's individual polymer
components cross link forming a highly stable, synthetic rubber
material. Once cured to its ultimate strength, Hypalon shows little
change in extensibility and provides good resistance to a broad range
of chemicals, although ability to weld again is greatly diminished.
Hypalon is inherently fire resistant. Hypalon roofing is used for
commercial, industrial and institutional applications, especially
where strong chemical resistance is required. The material is
generally available in white color in thicknesses of 45 mil (1.14 mm)
and 60 mil (1.52) thickness in 6 to 7 foot wide rolls.
HYPALON
roofing membrane repairs
can be made by several methods, depending on the type of repair
needed:
- Using
M1
sealant together with
TPO
primer (around irregular surfaces and penetrations).
- Scoring surface
with a kitchen scrubber, clean with
Eternaclean and sealing with
Eternabond RoofSeal roof repair tape (easy and suitable for most
repairs).
- Scoring surface
with a kitchen scrubber and sealing with
EPDM
Coverstrip,
a reinforced EPDM roof seam tape (VERY strong).
PVC ROOFING
PVC roofing membrane
generally contain a high molecular weight, solids phase flexibility
agent that will not migrate from the sheet and gives good physical
properties, appearance and color after installation and years of
exposure to the elements. PVC membrane is used new and re-roofing
applications. PVC has some history of getting brittle over time. The
membrane comes in standard thickness of 45, 50, 60 and 80-mils in
rolls that are typically 6 to 7 feet wide X 100-feet long. One
advantage of PVC membrane is that it remains hot-air weldable
throughout its life. If new equipment is later added to the roof or
other alterations are made, the PVC membrane can cut, repaired and
easily re-welded.

can be made by several methods, depending on the type of repair
needed:
TPO ROOFING
TPO Roofing Membrane
is a reinforced thermoplastic polyolefin. It is formulated from a
proprietary compound of ethylene propylene rubber and polypropylene.
TPO roofing is an environmentally friendly roofing material that
provides good weatherability, fire and chemical resistance. The seams
and details TPO are hot-air welded. TPO roofing membrane is
thermoplastic in nature, which allows it to be hot-air welded. TPO
shows little change in after weathering and provides good resistance
to a broad range of chemicals. TPO roofing is used for commercial,
industrial and institutional applications. The material is generally
available in white color and can be specially ordered in other colors.
Rolls are sold in thicknesses of 45 mil, 60 mil and 80 mils in 3 to 12
foot wide rolls.
